Alight Motion 4.0 Showcase
Created a 30 second animation to showcase the new features in popular motion design app Alight Motion's new version.
The video has been used as the main key art for the promotion campaign and later on, partial tuturials have been created by the client covering some of the effects in it.
"It's possible to create a full on animation on mobile"
Alight Motion was already one of the most popular mobile content creation tools when we started our project. With even more great features added in 4.0 version, the client was looking to target a different audience; professional motion designers. Their initial claim was "it's possible to create a full on animation on mobile" and it was amazingly true.
"Story of an astronaut fails to notice a UFO because they were making an animation on Alight Motion"
As happens in every animation project, we started the process with ideation. Our main focus was to showcase the features:
Our theme was "space travel" and the client already had some ideas like 2.5D layers coming together to form a "4.0" and a spaceship orbiting around a planet.
I worked on putting together all the ideas in the form of a simple story and came up with a little joke and we finalized the story. The final story can be described as "an astronaut fails to notice a UFO because they were making an animation on Alight Motion"
We continued with storyboarding. The biggest challenge in this part was actually the biggest challange of the project. We had to showcase the app's abilities to their limits but at the same time consider it's capabilities.
We carefully constructed the scenes to reach the limits of the app's abilities. This is where we also decided how these scenes can be structured within the app and which effects can be used to achive the desired look.
The story, general look and the feeling of the video and compositions came together and the technical decisions to be able to create the final video made in this part. At the end of storyboarding we knew exactly what we were going to get.
There was one last challange waiting for us before we reach our goal. We had to showcase the limits of the 4.0 version while it was still in alpha phase. As it's expected to have crashes when testing the limits of a released app, we were almost sure that we were going to have technical difficuIties during the process. So, I worked simultenously with the development team as they were constantly fixing problems that some of them may be caused by me and adding new features.
With the simulteanous effort of both parties, we were able to create the 100% mobile animation:
